Chapter 28

After we got Santiago back to us. We came up with a plan to get the information from Valentina. We needed to know if everything she told us was true or not. I still didn’t trust her, even if the others did. I did not. Even if I couldn’t get the image of her out of my head. I wouldn’t be changing my mind unless I saw proof.

After we came up with a plan to get the information from Valentina we decided to head back. I want to keep an eye on our new pet. The others started gathering their stuff as I took the empty beer bottles to the trash. We only had the one knowing we had to drive back, much to Enzo’s dismay.

Just as I made it outside, my phone starts to ping. I discard the bottles and pull it out. It’s the cameras from the warehouse where the cage is. I had it programmed to notify me when one of our cars is spotted. My blood starts to boil when I notice the black Audi I sometimes used to head to the cage. I never take my car or bike there. It’s always one of the spares and I know for a fact that Silas asked me for the keys so he could give the car to Valentina to save me or Enzo having to drive her anywhere. It made sense to me, so I obviously gave him the keys.

I walk back into the living room where the others are getting ready to leave. I don’t bother looking up because I feel them stop. I continue to watch as the car pulls up behind the warehouse and Valentina gets out. I’d know her anywhere, even if she is draped in a hoodie and sweats. I don’t know why she bothered to hide her face at all. She grabs a bag from the car before heading towards the building. I look at the other cameras quickly making sure I’m right before I look up at the others. “We have a problem. Valentina has just gone into the cage. I don’t know how she found out about it, but she is there and she’s alone.” I growl as a collection of curses can be heard from the others. “We need to go and get her.” Lucas is practically out the door followed by Enzo, which I thought was strange, but I’ll ignore it for now. Santi is looking out the window, his face a mixture of emotions that I can’t be bothered to read into right now.

I pull up Liam’s phone number before I hit the call button. I knew Liam was working on the doors to the cage tonight with Rich, who I utterly despise. The others won’t let me fire him even though it pissed me off that he wears sunglasses inside like a heathen. It rings once before Liam’s gruff voice comes through the speaker. “Boss.” I smile. I like being the boss and everyone knows it.
